AGI PURSE FOR CONTINENTAL COUNTRY CLUB BOARD

FIRE SAFETY

Fire Safety:

In our CC&Rs fire safety is mentioned many times. The board has a duty to keep our neighborhoods and assets as safe as possible from fire. A few months ago, the board utilized a free service provided by the city whereby a representative is invited to speak to homeowners and/or board members regarding fire mitigation. The city representative is an ex-fireman named Mark Adams. He was invited by the board and spoke specifically about what our neighborhood needs to do to stay safe.

This informative presentation happened months ago. To date, the board has not communicated any helpful information to homeowners. Nor have they implemented ANY recommendations made by the city to improve fire safety in our community. I see this as a huge potential liability and in opposition of the CC&Rs that they are elected to maintain.

It is absolutely NOT manifest destiny that our houses should burn in a big fire. Lessons from CA and CO are important to integrate here in Flagstaff. WE CAN STOP any fire from taking over the neighborhood.

My impression is that the current board has a strong desire to avoid conflict and therefore forward movement on behalf of all residents regarding proactively implementing fire safety modifications. I have accumulated many articles regarding past fires, asked for and received a fire report for my property from the city and Mark Adams, and have since implemented ALL suggestions that the board has allowed. I have shared all information with the board, including the report I received from Mark.

We do not have to cut down all trees or lose our beautiful woodlands feel to be fire safe. I have many supporting articles and would be glad to share my fire report with anyone who is interested. Prevention is key. We absolutely CAN mitigate fire risk from one home to the next.
Fact: Flagstaff’s current drought of 20 years is the worst we’ve had in 500 years! This is not the time to put our heads in the sand and ignore the obvious.

My point of view is this:
We need to improve our fire safety efforts.

This goal is totally in sync with the CC&Rs. For some reason, the board is not actively driving any implementation of the recommendations they have already received from the city. As any of you who read know, this is an extraordinary time in our drought history and with climate change in general. To my mind, ignoring the current reality and the information that has already been received is gross negligence. I believe that this willful ignorance puts the board in an untenable liability situation and the money we’ve given them at risk.
