Better Communication:
Currently the board sends very limited outbound communication and expects all homeowners and club members to check the portal for any information regarding our association. What we find is that only a very few people are proactive and involved using the inbound communication methods which are currently the standard. This means that the 15 people who ARE logging into the portal, dictate all modifications and important issues for the 2,400 homes that we represent.
None of the communication I received when I bought my home included website or portal information. I had to ask to find out how to be a part of the communication channels.
I have heard the current board blame homeowners for a lack of involvement and interest, instead of assuming responsibility for their own egregious lack of communications effort. We all are busy humans and an email is a quick, timely and easy way for EVERYONE to stay connected on all issues, proactively alerting you to events and board decisions.
It seems to me that the current board does not want much feedback. Emails are free and easy and ensure that timely information is brought to YOUR attention. WHY aren’t we sending them??? I was a corporate VP in my 20s for a fortune 500 company and my department affected 12,500 employees.
Clear, timely communication was one of the many things I implemented immediately. I believe in PROACTIVE, REGULAR communication. The more transparency and feedback, the better. This board should serve us not the other way around.
I found it surprising that current election information and meeting dates were not added to the calendar in the homeowner portal. Why?! It’s a Calendar of events and the election dates and meetings related to the election are not on it.
The board has made it as difficult as possible for new candidates to access the homeowner information. Why? So that the same cronies get elected again and again by the very few who actually vote. One of the current candidates made an $80,000 mistake during one of his terms. The current board loves him because he is a go-along-get-along kind of a guy. I am not. I have never made even a $10,000 mistake in my life.
